Four new nebulisers for York Hospital patients
8 JULY 2024
We are pleased to announce funding for four new nebulisers at York Hospital’s Head and Neck department. This was made possible by our generous donors.
This important equipment will improve care for patients who need regular nebulisation. It is especially helpful for those who had a laryngectomy (voice box removal) or radiotherapy.
A nebuliser is a machine that turns liquid medicine into a fine mist or spray. Patients can breathe it in through a mask or mouthpiece. It helps to moisten the mouth and throat and loosen saliva.
Nebulisers are crucial for treating patients with specific needs. For those who had a laryngectomy, regular nebulisation is vital. It protects their airway and keeps the trachea moist, improving their quality of life.
Patients who had radiotherapy often have thick secretions and dry mouth. Using a nebuliser can reduce these symptoms and providing relief.
These additional nebulisers will be used within York Hospital, as well as being available for patients to borrow and use at home.
Caroline Abernethy, Macmillan Head and Neck Clinical Nurse Specialist, said:
“I would like to thank the donors for their generous donations that allowed the Head and Neck Macmillan nursing team to purchase four nebulisers. We loan these to patients who had radiotherapy and struggle with dry mouth and thick secretions to improve their quality of life.”
“The nebuliser has been a huge help in managing my symptoms. It’s made a big difference in my daily life, and I’m so grateful to everyone who donated to make this possible.”
Your donations are making a real difference in the lives of our patients. These nebulisers bring comfort, relief, and better health to those patients who need it most.
