Two new Sara Stedys for Surgical Therapy Team
28 OCTOBER 2026

Two new Sara Stedys have been funded for wards 11 and 16 at York Hospital, providing valuable support for patient therapy and nursing staff.
Requested by Helen Stephenson, Physiotherapist, the Sara Stedys support staff when helping patients transfer safely between beds, chairs and toilet as well as reducing the risk of patients remaining in bed.
The equipment is particularly beneficial for patients who have some ability to stand but require additional support. By helping patients take an active role in their own movement, the Sara Stedys can support rehabilitation and independence throughout their hospital stay, while helping them to maintain their dignity and improving confidence.
A fold-down seat provides additional support, allowing patients to be transferred safely and comfortably when needed. The equipment also supports staff with safer moving and handling, reducing the need to physically support patients during transfers.
Helen said:
“Having two new Sara Stedys has been very beneficial for both the Surgical Therapy Team and the nursing staff. The equipment enables us to work together to support patients with their mobility and help them move when needed.
“Having two available also means we don’t need to move equipment between wards or wait for it to become available, which is particularly important for staff efficiency, so our patients receive rehabilitation promptly.”
