The EULAR European congress of Rheumatology conference
14 OCTOBER 2026

Julie Green, Advanced Specialist Nurse attended the Rheumatology Conference in June, thanks to funding from York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity. Over three days, Julie joined healthcare professionals and patients from across the country to learn about the latest developments in inflammatory and musculoskeletal diseases.
Before attending, Julie carefully reviewed the conference programme to ensure the sessions aligned with her learning goals. The conference also provided access to workshop content for six months after the event, allowing her to continue learning and revisit key topics.
Reflecting on the experience, Julie said:
"I always get so much from these conferences, whether it's learning about new medications and therapies coming onto the market, emerging evidence-based practice, or inspiring discussions with other clinicians.”
The opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the UK was particularly valuable.
"Through the conference I have made some valuable contacts and have developed friendships with healthcare professionals from other Trusts. We’re able to share experiences and ways of working to develop and enhance our own Rheumatology services."
Julie explained that attending conferences not only enhances her clinical knowledge but also boosts her confidence, reaffirming the quality of care provided by the Rheumatology Team and highlighting York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust's involvement in innovative research and clinical trials.
One of Julie's highlights from the conference was learning about research exploring the use of Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) alongside a medication already used to treat inflammatory arthritis. Early results demonstrated significant improvements in patients' symptoms, showcasing how treatments developed for one condition may have benefits in another.
"I always appreciate hearing about new practices and clinical trials, especially those that could soon be available in the UK and make a real difference for our patients."
