Children attending therapy sessions at Malton Hospital are benefiting from a new interactive projector, funded by York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity.

Installed in the Physiotherapy Department, the projector is already transforming therapy sessions by making rehabilitation exercises more engaging, interactive, and enjoyable for young patients. The technology can project a wide range of activities onto the floor, from scoring football goals and walking through a virtual fishpond to playing musical games on a piano keyboard.

The projector combines movement, sound, and visual elements to create an immersive sensory experience and will be used by the Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech and Language Therapy teams.

Becky Harrison, Paediatric Physiotherapist, said:

"We are so thankful for the projector. The whole team is really excited about using it as part of patients' rehabilitation programmes. It has been amazingly easy to use, and staff have loved exploring all the different activities available.

"Our Speech and Language Therapy colleagues will also benefit from the projector, as it includes literacy-based games, making it a fantastic resource across the whole Children's Therapy Team.

"We often find it can be challenging to encourage our younger patients to complete their exercises. Working with children and young people aged 0 to 18 means we need creative ways to engage a wide range of ages and abilities. The projector helps make therapy fun and motivating, while still supporting important rehabilitation goals. Thank you so much to York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity for funding this."

Becky, who works across multiple sites, has already seen the positive impact of a similar projector at York Hospital, where patients and families have responded enthusiastically to the interactive games. The new installation at Malton Hospital will enable even more children to benefit from this innovative approach to therapy, helping them stay motivated while developing important physical, communication, and motor skills.
