York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity was proud to support Menopause Awareness Week by working alongside the Trust’s Wellbeing Team to help promote understanding, compassion, and support for those experiencing symptoms of menopause.

To help spark conversations and provide practical comfort, the Charity funded branded handheld fans as part of the awareness campaign. These fans were distributed to colleagues and passers-by, serving a dual purpose of raising awareness of menopause symptoms while offering immediate relief from one of its most common symptom, hot flushes. Rachel Marson, Health and Wellbeing Lead, said:

“Staff feedback was great, they commented that the fans were useful to have at work, staff were grateful for this and felt it was thoughtful that they had been provided.”

Each fan also featured the charity logo, helping to highlight the role of charitable support in enhancing staff wellbeing initiatives.

The initiative was led by Rachel Marson, Health, and Wellbeing Lead, who incorporated the fans into an engaging awareness stand, she said:

“the fans looked fabulous on the stall; eye catching, engaging and a conversation starter.  It also feels wonderful to give something back to staff, especially if they are experiencing menopause symptoms.  A really nice, yet practical thing to share with colleagues!”

The display offered information on how menopause can affect individuals, both physically and emotionally, guidance on how colleagues, friends, and family members can offer support as well as opportunities for open conversations to help break down stigma and increase understanding.

Rachel spoke with staff and visitors throughout the week, helping to raise awareness of the wide range of symptoms associated with menopause and encouraging a more supportive and informed workplace culture.
