Epilepsy National Nurse Conference
17 JUNE 2026

York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity recently funded Kym Brown, Advanced Epilepsy Specialist Nurse and Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP), to attend the National Nurse Conference, an event dedicated to sharing the latest guidance, research, and best practice in epilepsy care.
Kym has been prescribing for four years, and attending the conference provided valuable reassurance that her prescribing practice continues to meet the highest standards, aligning with current professional guidelines and national regulations.
The conference featured a wide range of talks and workshops, including in‑depth discussions on epilepsy medications, the effects, and how different patient presentations can influence prescribing decisions.
Reflecting on the value of attending, Kym shared:
“These types of conversations are invaluable to myself and my team. We get to discuss the effects of certain drugs and how patients responded. Whilst understanding what drugs will work best for a patient, we tend to look at what symptoms they are presenting, as opposed to themselves holistically.
“Attending the conference, we are speaking to nurses, prescribers and consultants from all over the country. We can discuss how different ethnicities and cultures respond to drugs, helping us better care for our patients.
“I have also been able to reduce some patients’ medication intake from having discussions about how better to supplement that patient as opposed to increasing the amount of medication they need to take.
“By being able to attend the course, I can further my knowledge, gain confidence and know that I am doing all I can for my patients. It’s really rewarding and I really appreciate the charity for helping me achieve this.”
This investment not only benefits Kym’s professional development but also strengthens the quality of epilepsy care delivered to patients across the region.
