Bose speaker used for chapel services
19 MAY 2026

York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity funded a specialist speaker, originally purchased for the annual Remembrance Day service held outside York Hospital. The speaker allows important music, including The Last Post and Nimrod, to be projected clearly across the gathering, helping create a respectful and meaningful atmosphere for everyone attending.
Since then, the speaker has become a vital part of the chaplaincy’s wider work. It is now extensively used at graveside funerals, giving families the option to include music during services and prayers, creating a more personal and comforting experience at moments of loss.
The speaker also supports weekly chapel services. Every Wednesday, Chaplain, Martin Hammond uses it during the lunchtime service for staff, allowing reflections and prayers to be heard clearly throughout the chapel.
A single piece of charity‑funded equipment is now helping bring comfort, connection, and dignity across many different moments in hospital life, from public remembrance to quiet spaces of reflection.
