Transforming outdoor spaces at Woodlands House
19 MAY 2026

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Research team at Scarborough Hospital have upgraded two outdoor spaces at Woodlands House into welcoming garden retreats, complete with new seating, plants and vibrant decorations. This has created peaceful outdoor spaces for the team and other colleagues working in Woodlands House to take a break.
Janine Armstrong, Research Nurse, explained “This will give staff outside space for respite from the demanding nature of healthcare work, helping to prevent burnout, increase wellbeing and productivity, improve happiness and feel more relaxed.
“Productive staff leads to improved patient care and a more positive overall hospital environment. The updated outdoor space at each end of the third floor of Woodlands House will help foster a healthy work culture and give a platform for networking and collaboration for all those who work in Woodlands House.”
“These spaces have been generously funded by York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity. They have been invaluable for staff to have a safe space to manage and process the physical and psychological demands of their work. This is vital for us to provide safe, effective and compassionate care.”
