Long line call bells for Selby Immediate Care Ward
16 APRIL 2026
York & Scarborough Hospital Charity has recently funded longline call bells for the Selby Intermediate Care Ward, significantly improving patient experience and communication.
These extended call bell lines allow for staff to be notified when a patient needs assistance. The are used as part of the teams call bell system, allowing for patients to be able to request assistance whilst still being in a safe and comfortable bed. The long lines also allow for staff to be able to be able to continue writing up reports or to be able to finalise a task knowing that the patients can seek attention should they need it.
For many patients on the ward, who may be awaiting transfer back to their usual care setting or preparing to move to another ward, being able to contact the staff easily and safely will reduces stress for both the patient and their loved ones, knowing they can easily access care. The longline system provides greater privacy, fewer disruptions, and a more dignified experience during what can often be an uncertain time.
