The annual York Children’s ward Christmas party was once again a huge success with both the children and parents. Thanks to the Play team’s hard work and some generous donations, the party brought fun and happiness to some of the young patients during the festive season.

Every year the Play team raise money for the party and along with funding from York & Scarborough Hospital Charity they host a children’s Christmas party. Children who have spent a long time in hospital or have needs that bring them to the hospital frequently are invited with their families to join for an afternoon of fun and festivities. The party setting gives families a chance to meet with others who understand what they are going through, as well as the children being able to relax and play with children in a safe environment. The Christmas party is a hit every year.

One parent said:

“I don't think you fully appreciate what you are providing beyond a 'party'.  This is a chance for children who are different in a variety of ways to come together and embrace those changes.  It is the only place where Laith has seen other children doing life with a feeding tube. The children were allowed just to be themselves and to engage as much as they liked with no pressure, but were included in everything either way.”

The party is popular, with another family saying they had cancelled their flights to Spain so that they would be able to attend!

Another parents said:

“The party was once again, amazing.  Every year that we are lucky enough to be invited you and the team exceed all our expectations.”

A parent of a 2-year-old who also attended last year said:

“Once again it was wonderful. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the children were truly at the heart of everything. Every detail was carefully thought through to make them feel safe, happy and special. The joy on their faces meant more to us than words can say, and seeing them laugh, relax and just enjoy being children was incredibly emotional as parents. We are so grateful to all the staff and volunteers who give their time, kindness and care to make this event happen. It created memories we will cherish forever.”

York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity is proud to support the Play team in funding such a fabulous annual event.
