York Hospital Twinkl account
13 FEBRUARY 2026

York Hospital’s Play Team now has access to their own Twinkl account thanks to funding by York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity.
The Twinkl account is an online site where members can log in and have access to thousands of templates for colouring and activity sheets, bunting, posters, certificates, and other documents which can be used to keep children busy while in hospital.
Lynda Robson, Play Team Leader said: “The Twinkl account is so import to our day-to-day activities. We use the account every day. This helps us to create child friendly and accessible information to use around the Children’s Day Unit as well and the Children’s Ward.”
Nicky Gilmour, Play Team Assistant added: “Twinkl covers all age groups so we really can use it for everything. If there is an event going on for example, road safety, we can make information walls that relate to this to help keep children educated and entertained.
“We also ask what a patient is interested in, then we can download specific templates of drawings for colouring in, or stories to tailor to the patient’s hobbies.”
Lynda continued: “We create certificates on the account and have these ready printed out for patients. The certificates are for when the patient has had a distressing day or completed a treatment. We give them the certificate to try and turn a negative experience into a positive. Parents also love this and get involved, saying they will put the certificate up on the fridge or frame it.”
The whole Play Team is very thankful for the funding from York & Scarborough Hospital Charity for the account. This has made the children’s experience on the wards much more positive.
