Quiet Rooms, Magnolia Centre, York Hospital
11 AUGUST 2025

Thanks to generous donations it has been possible to refurbish two quiet rooms in the Magnolia Centre at York Hospital.
Ellie O’Neill, Breast Cancer Nurse Specialist Service Manager, shared how the recent refurbishment has transformed the rooms from cold and clinical spaces into warm, welcoming environments.
“Before the upgrade, the rooms felt bright, clinical and somewhat neglected due to old and broken furnishings, which we worried might reflect poorly on the team,” Ellie explained. “Now, the rooms have a real sense of warmth. Patients can relax in a calming, non-clinical space where they feel safe to open-up about their emotions.”
The addition of features like dimmable lighting has created a more calming atmosphere, not only for patients but also for staff seeking a quiet space to step away from emotionally demanding work.
Ellie added;
“We’ve received really positive feedback from patients using the new rooms. The team is incredibly grateful to the generous donors of York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity for making this transformation possible.”
