Our National Elf Service Day is taking place on Wednesday 10 December, and we’re looking for supporters and staff across the Trust to get festive and boost morale in your workplace, ward or department!
As a Chief Elf, you will receive a festive hat as well as a fundraising pack which includes a donation tin, posters, quizzes and lots of ideas to help you get fundraising.
NEW for this year, don’t miss out on the National Elf Awards, where you could win a festive Christmas gift! Submit your team photos to be in with a chance of winning.
What's involved?

Spread the cheer and wear your festive gear for National Elf Service Day!
Simply ask your colleagues to wear their favourite festive attire to work and make a donation of £2 to York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity. Your contribution will help fund the extras and improve the experiences of staff, patients and their families.
With lots of ideas in the fundraising pack, be as creative as you like or you can even plan your own fundraising event!

Here’s what being a Chief Elf involves:
- Register your ward or department to take part.
- Spread the word – put up posters and share your fundraising plans.
- Encourage your colleagues to don their most festive gear on 10 December for National Elf Service Day.
- Collect £2 donations from everyone joining in the fun
- Celebrate your efforts knowing you’ve made a real difference while having some festive fun!
The Charity Team will be here to help you promote your activities and make your National Elf Service Day one to remember.
The National Elf Awards are a brand new addition to this year’s National Elf Service! They’re a fun way to celebrate your team’s festive spirit and all the amazing fundraising you do – with the chance to win a special Christmas gift.
There are three exciting categories you can enter:
- Best dressed elf team – for the most creative and festive outfits
- Top fundraising team – for the team that raises the most money
- Best elf team photo – for the most fun, original team photo
Take a photo of you and your team showing off your best elf spirit, then send it by email (hello@yshospitalscharity.org) or WhatsApp (07920818394) to the Charity Team. Be sure to include your ward or department name when you send your entry.
Entries will close Monday 15 December at 9am. The winner will be notified via email.
You can collect cash donations using the charity collection tin provided in your fundraising pack when you register. You can also collect online donations via a QR code poster, which will be sent to you by the Charity Team.
Once your event is finished, you will be contacted by the Charity to arrange collection of any cash and confirming your total raised.
