York Register Office celebrates 12 years supporting Special Care Baby Unit
2 SEPTEMBER 2024
Over the past twelve years York Register Office has raised more than £46,500 to help fund specialist training and additional equipment for York Hospital’s Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU).
The unit provides high quality nursing care to babies that are born prematurely or are unwell and after hearing directly of their amazing work by parents coming to register a birth, the registrars in the office opened a collection for York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity.
They celebrated this milestone with a recent donation of £4,400 and praised the generosity of local parents.
Cllr Lucy Steels-Walshaw, Executive Member for Health, Wellbeing and Adult Social Care, said: “This donation will help support the incredible work of the dedicated team at the Special Care Baby Unit. It’s lovely to see how generous families have been and the Register Office team have worked incredibly hard to collect such a significant amount. The work of the Special Care Baby Unit is so meaningful and makes a huge difference to many families going through incredibly challenging times, and we are proud to support their amazing work.”
Donations from York Register Office have helped to fund many projects on the department including specialist staff training, improvements to the parents sitting room and specialist twin cots, making a real difference to improving the facilities for families using SCBU.
Amanda Sykes, York Register Office Manager said: "Over the last 12 years we’ve raised more than £46,000 for the Special Care Baby Unit, and it has been incredible to see how generous people have been. The team on the unit do such amazing work that touches so many lives. It’s been really special for the team at the Register Office to be able to help support them in this way, and we know that the people of York have been incredibly grateful for them too.”
