York and Scarborough hospitals receive privacy prams
2 OCTOBER 2026

Bereaved families at York and Scarborough hospitals now have access to two new privacy prams, thanks to the incredible fundraising efforts of Katherine Wray-Eccles, Iris Team Bereavement Midwife.
Katherine organised a race night at her local pub to raise funds for the Maternity Bereavement Service, with the aim of improving equipment and furniture available to families during an incredibly challenging time.
Thanks to the generosity of Katherine’s friends, family and local community, her fundraising has helped provide two privacy prams for York and Scarborough hospitals, a new cold cot, and new furniture for the Snowdrop Room at Scarborough Hospital.
As part of the project, Katherine contacted 4Louis, a charity supporting families across the UK following miscarriage, stillbirth, or the death of a baby. Through a £1,000 donation to 4Louis, Katherine was able to secure two privacy prams for the Maternity Bereavement Service.
The specially designed prams give parents the opportunity to move around the hospital with their baby in a private and dignified way, whether travelling between wards, spending time outside in the hospital grounds, or accompanying their baby to the mortuary.
Each pram features a double hood to provide additional privacy, alongside interchangeable signs featuring either the charity logo or the words “Please respect my privacy,” as well as helping to protect families’ privacy and dignity, the prams can give parents another precious experience with their baby and support them in creating memories together.
Katherine said:
“When I first started working at the Trust in January, I felt there was a real need for the prams. The impact that these prams can have for families is so profound. The prams have already been used by families and allow for dignity and respect to be paid to their baby.
“The prams are incredibly important to me, and I am so delighted that I have been able to raise the funds to support both York and Scarborough hospitals.”
Katherine’s fantastic fundraising is helping the Maternity Bereavement Service provide compassionate, respectful care to families at an incredibly challenging time, while helping parents make precious memories with their baby.
