York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity is calling on local businesses and community groups to take part in a special SpeedQuizzing night to help raise vital funds for the Tiny Lives Appeal, supporting the Neonatal Unit at York Hospital.

The charity is aiming to raise £100,000 to fund additional furnishings and equipment that will enhance the new-look unit and improve the experience for babies and their families. Having already raised over £50,000, the team is now inviting the community to help push the appeal over the next milestone.

The charity would like to thank the York Sports Club for hosting the event, which is set to take place on Wednesday 8 July. The event offers a chance for colleagues, friends and community groups to come together for a relaxed evening of food, friendly competition and networking - all while supporting a cause that touches hundreds of local families every year.

Teams of four to six people are invited to enter, with tickets priced at £20 per person, including food (pizza and chips). Doors open at 5.30pm, with the quiz starting at 6pm.

Every year, around 375 babies begin their lives in the Neonatal Unit at York Hospital. Many are born prematurely or with complex health needs, requiring specialist care in their earliest days and weeks. For families, it can be an overwhelming and emotional time.

A £2 million refurbishment of the unit is currently underway, creating a modern, state-of-the-art environment for babies to grow stronger and healthier, alongside improved facilities for parents. The Tiny Lives Appeal will fund additional items to make the space calmer, more comfortable and more family-friendly - helping families feel supported while their baby receives expert care.

Funds raised through the quiz night will directly support this work, helping to create an environment that matches the compassion and dedication shown by the Neonatal team every day.

Emma Sargent, Fundraising Manager at York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity, said: “We’re really grateful for the support the support the Tiny Lives Appeal has received so far, but we still have work to do to reach our £100,000 target. The quiz night is a brilliant way for businesses and community groups to come together, enjoy themselves and make a real difference to local families at the same time.

“If you’re thinking about getting involved, this is your moment. Grab a team, book a table and help us create a space that gives our smallest patients and their parents the very best start.”

The charity is also welcoming event sponsors, offering local businesses the opportunity to show their support while gaining visibility on the night.
