Community Café raises £1,100 for Autumn Project at York hospital.
2 FEBRUARY 2026

York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity is incredibly grateful to have been selected as the chosen charity at Newton on Derwent Village’s 200th Community Café, where an impressive £1,100 was raised in support of the Autumn Project at York Hospital.
Organiser Jess Richardson chose to support the Autumn Project, which helps patients and their families receiving end of life care. The project was launched by the Palliative Care teams at York and Scarborough hospitals to ensure there are dedicated spaces for patients in the final stages of life. Autumn rooms have been created and by using bespoke privacy screens on wards, patients and their loved one’s can have precious time together. The event was also attended by charity supporter Louise Rhodes, who has a personal connection to the Autumn Project following the care her dad received.
The milestone café brought the local community together for a special celebratory event. The village hall was filled with visitors enjoying tea, coffee, savouries and a wide selection of homemade cakes, all prepared and served by Jess and her wonderful team of volunteers. Local businesses kindly donated raffle prizes, helping to boost fundraising on the day.
Becky White, Community Fundraiser at York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity, said:
“We would like to thank Jess, and everyone involved in the 200th Newton on Derwent Community Café. The fantastic amount raised will make a real difference to patients and families supported by the Autumn Project.”
